How to Reduce Stress — Even When Life Feels Out of Control

How to Reduce Stress

Free Live Webinar | Tuesday 19 November | 2:00 PM GMT

Have you ever wished you could just get through a week — even a single day — without feeling stressed?

You wake up tired.
You go to bed wired.
And somewhere between the constant pings, the bills, and the pressure to “keep it all together,” you start to wonder:
Is this just what life feels like now?

You tell yourself you’re fine — that everyone’s stressed. But deep down, you know it’s not sustainable.

When Stress Becomes a Way of Life

Lately, I’ve met more and more people who aren’t just tired — they’re empty.
Running on adrenaline. Functioning on autopilot.

In a resilience workshop I delivered for senior leaders, three-quarters of the group shared — without prompting — that they’d had counselling or coaching because of burnout.

These were bright, capable, compassionate professionals. People who lead others, make decisions, and appear strong.
And yet, behind closed doors, they were running on fumes.

Not everyone has that safety net.
Many soldier on, trying to manage their stress alone — or they lean on friends and family who love them but are often too close to help.
Sometimes you need to hear it from someone who isn’t caught in the same storm.

My Own Wake-Up Call

Years ago, I was diagnosed with a pituitary apoplexy — a sudden haemorrhage in the brain.
I remember sitting in the hospital, watching the monitor trace each heartbeat on the screen.
Life looked so fragile. For the first time in years, I stopped running.

When I asked my neurosurgeon, Dr Borg, if stress had caused it, she told me no.
But as I sat there, I realised something important: while stress may not have caused it, years of ignoring my own wellbeing had taken their toll.

That was my turning point.
I understood that while we can’t control what happens to us, we can absolutely influence what happens within us.

What Stress Really Does

When pressure builds, your body triggers what psychologists call the fight, flight or freeze response — a mechanism wired into our brains millions of years ago to help our ancestors survive.

But those ancient circuits were designed for sabre-toothed tigers, not modern life.
Today, the “predators” are deadlines, bills, overflowing inboxes, no time to rest or recover.

Our nervous system hasn’t caught up.
Your heart races, your breathing quickens, your thoughts narrow.
And if that response stays switched on too long, it drains every system in the body.

Author Johann Hari, in Lost Connections, describes how our separation from meaning — from rest, purpose, and community — fuels anxiety and depression.
It’s not just that we’re busy; it’s that we’ve forgotten how to stop.

What People Say

At a professional conference on stress in Frankfurt, Robert Gordon, Ph.D., ABPP, Fellow of the American Psychological Association, said:

“I chaired a professional conference on stress in Frankfurt and heard Mike Lawrence present.
I was very impressed with both his intelligence and his humanity.”

That balance — science and soul — is what this live session delivers.

What You’ll Learn

This 60-minute webinar gives you real, practical strategies you can use immediately to reduce stress and regain calm.

  • The real reason your brain resists calm — and how to reset it in under two minutes.
  • The simple, science-backed method to interrupt stress before it spirals.
  • How to spot burnout early — in yourself and others.
  • How to protect your energy and focus when everything feels uncertain.
  • A five-minute morning routine that grounds you before the day begins.

Part of managing stress is retraining your mind to focus.

Small changes can ripple wider than you think.

A Moment to Reflect

When was the last time you stopped — really stopped — and asked yourself how you’re coping?
Not the version you show the world, but the truth you whisper just before sleep.

I’m not promising a life without pressure.
But I am promising this: you can find calm even in chaos.
I’ve seen it. I’ve lived it. And I’ll show you how.

Bring a notebook, an open mind, and someone who could use an hour of peace.
Because stress might be part of life — but it doesn’t have to run your life.

As Maya Angelou said:

“Nothing will work unless you do.”

This hour could be the start of you working for yourself again — for your health, your focus, and your peace of mind.

The storm won’t always pass when we want it to,
but you can learn to find stillness in the eye of it.
That’s what this hour on 19 November is really about.
