Staying alive happens when you push past your edges 🎵
Want to feel more alive? Step outside your comfort zone.
Recently, I did something I never thought I would do.
And that’s saying something—I’ve jumped out of planes, walked across fire, and somehow kept my cool while giving a talk post-brain surgery.
But this time, it wasn’t about adrenaline.
It was about discomfort—the invisible kind that creeps in when you’re about to do something brave.
There was a steel bar involved.
Let’s just say, it took more than physical strength to face it.
Because before that moment, a voice inside whispered:
“Stay safe. Stay small.”
“Absolutely NOT—with a capital NOT!”
🧠 You Can’t Coach Around Discomfort
Supporting leaders through burnout, pressure, and performance is my thing.
But even I need reminding: you can’t logic your way out of discomfort.
You can’t bypass fear with strategy.
You either move through it—or stay stuck.
And when you move through? Something powerful happens:
- You feel clearer
- Lighter
- More alive
- More yourself
Not because you crushed a goal.
But because you crushed a fear that had quietly held you back.
💭 Why Most People Say “No Thanks” to Growth
There’s a quote I always come back to:
“How you do anything is how you do everything.” – T. Harv Eker
Most people live well within their comfort zones.
And I see it every time I share one of those mad videos on Facebook—like the virtual drop coaster from Cedar Point or a human cannonball being flung into a canyon.
The responses?
“Absolutely not.”
“Nope with a capital N.”
“You’d have to sedate me.”
I don’t blame them.
We’re all conditioned by our past, our frame of reference, our emotional map of the world.
But if you’re stuck, struggling, or silently suffering…
Maybe the thing you fear is the very thing that frees you.
🪂 What’s on My (Possibly Uninsurable) ‘Mike List’
This isn’t a traditional bucket list.
It’s a blueprint for aliveness—bold, a bit mad, and totally liberating.
- Swim with sharks
- Bungee jump into a canyon, New Zealand style
- Abseil into a festering alligator pit (on purpose)
- Wing walk on a plane
- And if my insurance doesn’t cover it, I’ll just call it a team-building exercise
It’s not about the thrill.
It’s about reminding myself that I’m alive—and that fear doesn’t get to write the ending.
🔥 What About You?
What’s one thing you’ve done recently that nudged you out of your comfort zone—and helped your wellbeing?
It could be:
- Saying “no” without guilt
- Taking a weekend off (and not checking emails)
- Opening up about how you’re really doing
- Asking for help instead of pretending you’re fine
🟠 Drop me a “🔥” if you’re on that edge
🟠 Or message me with your own story—I’d love to hear it
🎵 Stayin’ Alive Isn’t Just a Song
Let’s be honest: the Bee Gees had it right.
“Ah, ah, ah, ah, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive…”
That song isn’t just disco nostalgia—it’s a reminder:
Staying alive isn’t just about breathing.
It’s about living fully. And that begins at the edge of your comfort zone.
P.S.
The biggest breakthroughs often look small from the outside.
But inside? Something massive lets go.
And that’s where the real magic happens.
